Lehman High School, Kyle, TX to ISS audio 29th March 2011

I was just looking at the track for the International Space Station today and noticed that the ISS was just coming over the horizon up north.  So I tuned to 145.800 and started recording the audio.

Turns out it was a scheduled contact with Catherine Coleman and Lehman High School in Kyle, TX.

Here is the ISSFANCLUB snippet regarding the contact.

“Lehman High School students in Kyle, Texas have been scheduled for an Amateur Radio on the International Space Station (ARISS) contact on Tuesday, March 29 at 17:40 UTC. The youth have been learning about astronomy, geography and physics and have been studying for their amateur radio Technician licenses. Journalism students have established reporter contacts and will provide news briefs, interview material, photographs and video material to local news outlets.”

Here is the audio – approx. 7 mins long.   The start was chopped, as was the end, but still a good 7 mins pass after all.

Chasing the DX–tools to make it a little easier…

Thursday, 24 March 2011 11:32 by G7EIX

For those people who do not have 196khz of PowerSDR Panadapter to show when the band of their choice may be opening, there are options to help you be the first to get that DX station before the pileup starts.

I have collated a list of the websites I use on a daily basis to make sure shooting the fish in the barrel stays enjoyable.

The Reverse Beacon Network

The Reverse Beacon Network is a revolutionary new idea. Instead of beacons actively transmitting signals, the RBN is a network of stations listening to the bands and reporting what stations they hear, when and how well.

Real Time QSO Maps

Near time spots, Ionosphere Maps, Interactive Earth Maps and Callsign Lookups

DX Summit by OH8X has been a reliable source of current and historical DX activity on radio for many years.

Got any additions to the list?  Drop me an email through the contact form and I will add them.
